So here we are in the New Year! Many of us vow that THIS year will be the year that we have our breakthrough in our lives. Whether that be for our business, marriage, health or any other area that we are have been hoping that would be taken to the next level. Now while its fine and good to have aspirations for the coming year, it’s also important to realize that our desires are often different from God’s desires for us. Recently God revealed to me that as human beings we often decide to make the new and approaching year OUR year, but that he doesn’t work that way.
Say What Now?
See he let me know that long before we were formed in our mothers wombs he already ordained every moment of our lives, and that each year we simply get closer (hopefully) to his masterful plan for it. It’s a new year for us, but it is the SAME promise from him. So although we are asking for something for this coming year, God has already ordained this year and everything that comes with it for us.
When I realized this it REALLY opened my eyes!
I know that this is not rocket science or something that may be breaking news for you, however I do know that many times in the moment we do not always think about how we want our year and life to go, versus the path that God has ordained for us to take in that moment. So here are 3 simple ways to gear up for what God is trying to do for you in 2017 versus what YOU have planned.
1) Seek God In Prayer- I know groundbreaking right? Well here’s the thing if we don’t give God our time, there’s no way that we can know whether or not our plan is in alignment with his. When we seek him in prayer it opens the lines of communication to share the desires of our hearts with him, but also for him to share with us the plans that he has as well.
2) Be open and flexible- Are you a control freak like me?I have often realized that having a set vision for how I want things to go never really has worked with God. In fact more times than not it will not go how I anticipated, but it will turn out just how it needs to. We must remain open and flexible to his masterful plan for us, knowing and understanding that he truly knows best and always has our best interest in mind.
3) Stay True To His Plan- By far this is the most important of the three. We must remain on the path that he tells us to take. If we don’t we open ourselves up to the risk of being delayed, acquiring unnecessary bruises and bumps along the way, or the possibility of it not coming to pass at all. Its simply just not worth it!
When we open ourselves to what God has planned for us versus what we have planned it will always look different than we imagined. It may also seem impossible, or like the road less traveled, but God always takes us the route that is best for us!
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
