Have you ever wondered if what you were doing was exactly what you were supposed to be doing in that moment of life? Have you ever wondered if you missed something along the way that could have been life changing, or path altering?
One of my favorite artists John Mayer has a song called “Why Georgia” here’s a look at some of the lyrics:
Either way I wonder sometimes
About the outcome
Of a still verdict less life
Am I living it right?
Am I living it right?
Am I living it right?
Why, why Georgia, why?”
I don’t know if the words resonate with you but it’s hard for me to imagine that anyone would want to live their entire lives on a path they were never meant to be on.
How can we be so sure that we are on the right path? Although that is not something that is always easy to tell, here are 3 ways to take a look and see if you are in fact on the right path for your life.
1. There’s something in your gut that says your close- Have you ever felt your intuition kicking in letting you know that even though you can’t see the other side of the mountain, there is something in your gut that keeps telling you not to give up? Is there something that keeps telling you that your almost to the place that you have been working so hard to get to? If so this is a great sign!
2. You have a sense of peace- Even though things in your life may not be at an all time high, there is a sense of peace that you have. You trust that everything is in fact working for your good even if you can’t see it. In fact, even when things are complete mayhem you know that no matter what happens eventually all will be well.
3. Things seem to work in your favor- No, things aren’t perfect but somehow they always end up working in your favor. For example, your working towards a monetary goal and although you didn’t have the money going into the project somehow that money made it to you, or an unexpected opportunity comes your way. You may also often hear from others that “Things just seem to work for you.”
Now if you aren’t noticing these things happening in your life it doesn’t mean that you’re on the wrong path, it could mean you may have ventured a little off course. There’s no need to feel bad about this either, it happens to us all. I have noticed that when I am off course I feel off course. I feel resistance, frustrated, and I also feel all out of wack. Nothing seems to work for me, in fact I can barely think straight in those times. The best way to get back on course is to spend time in prayer asking God to show us what to do. Ask him to pinpoint to you where and how you may have ventured off course. There are times even when you are on course you have these same feelings as well, but this is more so a momentary frustration towards various situations versus a constant feeling of being out of wack. If you are unsure where you stand, ask God to show you if you are in fact on the right path. God has a way of showing us that we are on course even if we don’t feel like we are. I know that sounds confusing as heck, but that’s the best way that I can explain it!
Once you have asked God to clarify things for you, expect him to do just that! Often times he will give me a word repeatedly, either through a sermon, a book I am reading, or a conversation with a friend. Have you ever heard the same saying or message numerous times in a week? That’s often a sign that God is trying to get something to you! Other times he will answer me directly while I am prayer. God has a way of communicating with us each differently so be sure to keep your antennas up! But don’t just take my word for it. Let’s look at what the bible says about God letting us know the path that he wants us to take. Isaiah 30:21 (AMP) reads:
And your ears will hear a word behind you saying, This is the way; walk in it, when you turn to the right hand and when you turn to the left.
Now I am aware that some of us may be unclear whether or not we have heard from God, or how to know when it is God speaking to us. God communicates with us when things are still and silent. The best way to seek hearing from God is to get yourself into a still and quiet space and let him know that you are seeking his guidance. Remain in that still and quiet space for as long as you can. I set aside time everyday to pray and listen for God’s instructions. That is a system that works for me and my lifestyle, so I say create a system that works for yours. Another place you can find God’s instructions is in the Bible. Whenever I get ready to read I ask God to show me what he wants me to know that day, more times than not it is related to the exact thing I have been praying for.
I hope you feel empowered and encouraged that you are either on the right track, or on your way to getting there!
