Have you ever felt like you were out there alone? Have there been times where you have reached out to others only to find that they could not give you what you needed? Have you ever trusted in people only to find them fall short? If so we must remember that there is no greater friend than we can have then God himself. But don’t just take my word for it! Let’s take a look at what David has written in the book of Psalm 62: 8 (AMP)
8 Trust in, lean on, rely on, and have confidence in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts before Him. God is a refuge for us (a fortress and a high tower). Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!
David is one of my favorite people in the Bible. He went through so much in his lifetime, but never stopped communicating with God. In fact, because of his relationship with God, his bloodline was favored throughout time. So much so that Jesus himself was born in it later in time! The bible says that what God loved most about David was his heart. David didn’t always do the right thing, but because of his heart he had such an amazing relationship with God, and not to mention favor over his life! If you desire to deepen your relationship with God read the four pointers below!
1) Trust in God-To trust is defined as “belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something”- Merriam Webster. How much do you really trust God with your life, and with the desires of your heart? It is much easier to say that you trust him rather than actually trust him. Do you find yourself constantly worrying? If so that means, there is something that you have not entrusted yet to God!
2) Lean on God- To lean on God is putting your trust into action. Do you recall what it was like to be able to lean on someone when you were down? There is nothing like the feeling of knowing that God is right there for you to lean on. This implies that we do not take the weight of life on by ourselves, but we say “God you take this, it’s too heavy for me to carry.” The bible says that his strength is made perfect in our weakness, so the next time you think that leaning on God makes you less capable, think again. God desires for us to lean on him, it is the action behind our faith, and trust in him.
3) Rely on God- When we rely on someone it’s mostly for small things, like paying bills, giving us a ride, and keeping their word. Why then is it that we step to God doubting his ability to do what he said he will do? Why is it that when we can’t see something we instantly discredit that it will come to pass? In the bible it says that if we ask and believe that it is done, it shall be! That means that you have to rely on God’s word. Did you know that God’s name is a “strong tower.” ( Proverbs 18:10) That means that whenever you call upon his name you will find refuge and strength. That same strength and ability is present behind the scenes, even when we can’t see it. The same way we rely on visible things to be done, is the same way we must rely on God. If he said it, it will happen!
4) Pour out your heart to God-This one is really my favorite. Not only are we called on to trust, lean on, and rely on God, we are also called to pour out our hearts to him. God wants to hear from you! He doesn’t want you to hold all that weight on the inside of you. He wants you to talk to him the way you would a dear friend. This is true form of intimacy with God. We must learn to be like David and pour our hearts to God in the good, and not so good times. God is right there with a listening ear, there is no better council then to cast your concerns to God. He wants to be your greatest friend, ally, and resource, but in order to do those things you must open your mouth and tell him what’s on your mind. The bible says that “we have not because we ask not.” (James 4:2)
God is waiting for you. He wants to be there through every step of your journey. He’s not in the business of condemnation, or writing people off. No matter what you have done he still wants to welcome you with open arms. In fact, he has been there every step of the way whether you knew it or not. When we communicate with God it opens the floodgates for him to do amazing things within us, and through our lives. There is no greater love my friends.
